Josh Grabs Two Top 10’s to Finish of the Season
Tampa, FL (11/10/07) . . .
Wednesday night around 12:00 A.M., the Weller Racing team set off for a seventeen hour trip to Tampa, Florida to race at East Bay Raceway Park. The team arrived in Tampa around 6:30 Thursday night, to ensure them a good nights rest before Friday’s night of racing.
Friday around 2:30 in the afternoon, the team headed over to the track to finish the final preparations on the car, and to get their first look at the race track. By the time the drivers meeting was called there were twenty-three 360 sprinters’ at the track. This meant there would be three heats to get the evenings first set of qualifying under way. Josh started 5th in his heat race and finished in the 4th position. This gave him 1 ½ passing points and guaranteed him a spot in the feature event. In the feature Josh started in the 11th position and began gaining position as soon as the green flag dropped. By mid way through the race Josh had advanced to the 6th position. He then began a battle with the 4th & 5th places cars, but because of the one and a half lane track and all three cars running the same line he was unable to complete the passes. When the checkered was waved Josh was credited with a 6th place finish.
On Saturday afternoon, Josh and the team headed over to the track around 12:30, to wash and prep the car for the night’s race. By mid afternoon Josh and the team had finished washing the car and had done all the race day maintenance needed. When the drivers were called for the drivers meeting Saturday night, a few more 360’s had joined the field bumping the number from 23 to 26. Josh again drew a high number and started 6th in his heat race event. With the track being a little racier Josh was able to advance two position in his heat race to finish 4th. Once again he earned a spot in the feature event through his heat. Also a repeat from Friday night he started in the 11th position. At the start of the feature Josh once again got a decent start, but due to the track once again being one lane he was only able to advance to the 8th position at the end of the feature event. In the closing laps Josh was racing hard with the 7th & 8th place cars and was finally able to make a pass on the 8th place car coming for the checkered.
All in all it was a pretty good weekend for Weller Racing making their first start at East Bay Raceway Park. Saturday night’s event also closed out the 2007 season for the team. Josh had a great year with the win at Grandview and with18 top 10 finishes. Josh also scored a 8th place points finish with the Thunder on the Hill 410 Sprints with his 360 sprint. The team will now regroup over the winter and get ready for the 2008 season, which could start as early as January.
