Josh’s Florida Winter Nationals at East Bay

Wednesday Jan 30th 2008
Wednesday was a practice day at East Bay raceway for the upcoming Winter nationals. Josh ran 2 of the scheduled practices and then called it a night. Josh was fast in both practices and the team was happy with the results.

Thursday Jan 31st 2008
The first day of the Winter Nationals. Josh started out strong by finishing 2nd in his heat race. That earned him a 13th starting position in the A main. At the start of the feature Josh got tangled up with a spinning car and lost the nose wing in the incident. Josh then restarted in the 23rd position and passed cars up to the 14th position. The team was happy with the results even with the handicap of having lost the nose wing.

The second day of the Winter Nationals, Josh and the team saw a very different race track. The track was dry and hard. Josh missed qualifying in the heat race by finishing 3rd. This put him into the “B” main. Josh finished 2nd in the race earning a 23rd starting position in the “A” main. Due to a poor tire choice Josh finished the race in the 20th position.

Saturday February 2nd 2008
The final day of the Winter Nationals, Josh and the team had a very trying day. When Josh went out for warm-ups the engine would not come up to speed. The team went to work to try and fix the problem. The team replaced the parts they thought were the problem and went out for the heat race. The problem was not fixed and actually worse. The team went back to work and replaced the entire ignition system and fixed the problem. This unfortunately put Josh 15th in the first “B” Main. Josh had to finish in the top 2 to qualify. Josh started the race and quickly went to work. By the 4th lap of the race Josh was passing the 8th place car and seemed to be on his way to qualifying. The 8th place car turned hard into Josh and put him into the backstretch wall hard. This ended the evening for Josh and the Weller Racing Team.
